IIT Bombay alumni couple donates $11 million to alma mater: ‘steadfast commitment to gender inclusivity’
IIT Bombay said Friday it has received $11 million from an alumni couple — Jitendra Mohan and Swapna Samant — which would support key initiatives aimed at strengthening the institute’s legacy of excellence in education and innovation.In a statement, IIT Bombay said the donation from Mohan and Samant would play a pivotal role in advancing the institute’s leadership in semiconductor technology in which Mohan has achieved great success. Mohan graduated in Electrical Engineering in 1994, and Samant in Civil Engineering in 1995.A key focus of the couple’s contribution is the Vidya Sharma Chair Professorship in Electrical Engineering, which is dedicated to supporting women faculty members in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), said the institute.
“This initiative reflects the donors’ steadfast commitment to gender inclusivity in academia and their aspiration to foster an environment where women scientists and researchers can thrive,” added the statement.
